Father was right in wanting me to see this fantastic land. In my quest to finish what Uncle Thomas started, I have been astounded by my findings. Upon arrival, my ship was wrecked, and I was stranded for a while, but have faith dear Aunt!...I arrived safely into port upon a small dingy.</p> <p> The city is larger than any I have ever seen, and although it is shrouded in darkness...it's inhabitants bring life and vigour to the dreary surroundings. I can safely say that I have only been met by kind strangers soon to become friends. I wandered a bit through the streets, my first day here...feeling a bit shy, and awkward. Upon my wanderings I came upon a old church and cemetary...and dear Aunt, please do not grow faint upon my next set of words...but I saw with these eyes of mine a man not of this world..walking in the cemetary, I believe Uncle Thomas called them the undead. He did not see me, and I dare not approach the creature, but I am sure of what I saw, and have kept a detail journal of the discovery.</p> <p> The next morning I wandered into the town square, only to come upon another traveler, a professor! I believe he went by the name of Maes...with him another fascinating creature, a wolf of sorts that walks and talks, she was aided by some sort of steam apparatus...and herself a Doctor, I believe the name was Vert. I know I am terrible at remembering the full names, and I do feel ashamed at my lapse of memory..however their faces are etched upon my memory. While engaged in conversation about our whereabouts and the city itself, the wonder of it all..a strange man appeared, dressed very exotically..with a face mask, speaking a language I did not recognize, however! I did recall seeing similar footwear before when Cousin Sheldon return from the Orient..I could only surmise that he was from that region. </p> <p> I attend the Mayorial Ball, and saw the great bulk of a Mayor that the people had elected, he appears to be a sturdy type and hope that he well be a good leader. Oh Aunt! The dresses, the music, and the food, put me in the most romantic frame of mind...but I cannot let my feminine fancies distract me from finishing what Uncle Thomas started.</p> <p> And finally, dear Aunt...I don't want to put you in a state of distress, but I too had a close call with death. It was my darn curiosity getting the best of me, I wandered into a meadow, searching for the beastly blood that Uncle Thomas detailed in his journal...once with in the meadow, a strange toxin overcame me and I found myself slipping into unconsciousness...only to see the roots come alive and attempt to pull me underground! After a struggle, and several attempts at saving myself I felt about to give up, when I heard my father's voice speak to me, his message was clear, "You are not done here Lana, Get Up! Get Going! don't let the tree get the best of you." And with that I found in myself the strength to pull myself to freedom, one broken arm..and a few painful gashes, all miraculously healed by a wonder of a Psychian.</p> <p> Oh Aunt! Or must it be earth?"</p> <p>Leigh Huet:<br /> "earth is better it.....takes him....and when he rises he is....reborn....it is difficult to explain" she had seen it a few times felt it when he sunk into the soil how it acted as it did and all of him gone when it did.</p> <p>Mateem Batistuta<br /> hummed curiously, "Almost like a pheonix..." he ceased his musings, "I'll be over soon, I only need see her out and safely about."</p> <p>Leigh Huet<br /> was curious as to who her was but didn't ask her concern about D was stronger and said. "only what he has used to brush the horses with but I can contact Lefty again he is waiting but sleepinf."</p> <p>MateemMateem<br /> shook his head, "Let him preserve the energy... he needs all he can get. A brush is actually quite good... lots of his energy will have passed through it. lots of his emotions as well... may I see it?"</p> <p>Lady Leigh<br /> started to get it then changed her mind thinking of a better brushe from the words Mateem used she went to her dresser where her brush was then came back, "this might be better he used it to brush my hair maticulasly...when you mentioned energy and emotions passing through it...."</p> <p>Mateem<br /> nodded, "It's ideal then." he settled down on the ground, and reached up to recieve the brush, "If my thoughts on this are accurate, connecting through the element of earth itself, mo matter the form, will allow us the medium to find him, using this as a way to light the path. You are low on energy as well... the best thing I think that you could do is to, if you can... reconnect with your emotions regarding him the best you can. Let your heart call to his. It takes no strength of energy... but merely strength of heart. Carefully, slowly, he began to let his awareness sink into the ground, entwining his conciousness with the vibrations, the veins, the cracks, the roots growing through it, deeper, delving into layers, beyond that, stepping into the compressed molten rock, where all became the same, the focus... seizing upon that place, he reached back just enough to drag his form's right hand sluggishly, like it was being pulled by a string, over to the brush, and taking a deep breath, he seized upon the energy signature, "Find..." he mumbled softly, and brought the two together, seeking the one other match it would possibly have.<br /> Mateem successfully performs the Legendary ability.</p> <p>Vampire Hunter D<br /> * He opened those little beady eyes and screamed. The deep wet, moist life rising and roiling like millions, upon millions of black ants. D's body moving like hands were under him, the earth opening up to swallow him AND Mateem down. D's flesh rotting and falling away inside his very clothes, the hat fell away the skull, the skeleton of the darkest black glistening, that of a vampire as the Earth began to roll back over them. </p> <p>Mateem<br /> yowled like a startled cat and leapt out from the boiling earth, and crouched a good several yards away, having never seen earth behave like that before, it left him alarmed, "The hell?!" he pointed to the place D sunk down.</p> <p>Lady Leigh<br /> had tried to warn Mateem but guess he had to experience it first hand more than she realized she reached out for him to pull him out of the ground before it became fully solid.."I told you he becomes part of the earth."</p> <p>Vampire Hunter D<br /> *It was subtle,....the changes in the life around them. The shadows grew long, and covered the still form of the Hunter. But for a few hours when high noon glared, the Barbaroi was faithful. Using the cloak to cover the face of his host. The only exposed part of him aside from the left hand.</p> <p>D wasn't waking, and the Barbaroi was becoming deeply concerned. Blood bubbles floated along the air current of the canyon. Sometimes getting far too close for comfort. Often using the breath from his pursed lips to whh, whh, whh them away.</p> <p>By nightfall the Barbaroi was getting ready to reveal their location by screaming at the top of his voice H-E-L-P!!!! It had not occurred to him to use the bond. After all D was blocking it, had shut that door as tight as any vault. But then the scented smoke came,....The left arm ruffled and rose, the palm opening looking to and fro "Wha-s that?" Sniff, sniff.....</p> <p>D however was dreaming again. The scent triggering memory even in his torpor. Nights of love, and warm flesh. Her whispering voice and blue fire in her eyes. The scent of her skin, and the very Earth she had given to him. She went to the cafe but did not stay long. She went home but did not stay long there.</p> <p>She had gotten the message from Tempus and felt Rune had made a wise decision where he was concerned. They were already researching and going over the laws. Making adjustments by adding more form to them as far as to clarity of bails, fines and time.</p> <p>Though she did not move through the city she was aware of the stirrings even hearing of the books arriving. Knowledge is a good thing she thought and one she sought after more then most knew. The idea of all the books in the university going to waste bothered her.</p> <p>Every time there was a stirring in Asphodel she was aware. The ground more alive then most knew. She smirked when she saw the tree the darkness talking to her, but through it all she was still waiting. The bond still cold and silent. Her fingers moved to the marks upon her chest where his fangs pierced her heart. The fact that they were still there gave her a sense of hope.</p> <p>Finally she went home to check upon the roses she had drying...”almost” Soon they would be ready for what she wanted to do.</p> <p>Her hunger was growing daily and yet she resisted. Borris his concern growing. When she sat on the 2nd floor and laid upon the lounger she just stared at the pictures. It was then that Rune came to speak with her in regards to Nevaeh. How odd one should change so quickly but she did not believe it. As she told Rune, “one can put on a mask and pretend show one face but behind it a totally different one was there. If he had truly changed then perhaps working with the constables would show him the other side. Either way the ruling still stood. If he truly had changed he would understand and wait.”</p> <p>With her jaw aching and her heart she went to their sanctuary and checked the roses drying then smiled as they were brittle. She took a bowl then and placed the roses within it. First she ground them till only powder remained. She then pulled out a special dagger. This one upon its hilt was a rose the petals just as sharp as the blade itself. She caressed it remembering when it was given to her. She then closed her eyes and took the point of it and cut her wrist. Normally the dagger would come to life and suck at the blood hungrily but that was not its purpose today the blood dripped and pooled into the petals making a paste. She then licked the wound closing it but a mark remained. She was not healing like she should, then shrugged...”some price must be paid.” Then she rose and got some of the grass that he had rolled in, some of the dirt from the spring a few leaves from the tree and from the roses. She then placed them in the bowl and worked it all together and began to sing.</p> <p>Not one but all three tones where heard in a mournful sound. There was not happiness for the emptiness she felt and longing for him. The wind then began to build around her as her hair stirred from the breeze. Gentle at first then grew. A small blue flame building in the bowl would carry the mixed scents within then slowly the smoke and contents began to swirl. And then there were words to her song. “The one I love has left this plane. The bond still holds though only silence remains. Find him now where ever he may be Let him know I am waiting and so is his home. Help him to remember the love and the joy, the peace of togetherness that which we hold. May the scents of home touch him and stir him within for though they are different in that they are the same.” </p> <p>In one final burst she released it all her love and hope held within the song. Shattering the earth into a spray of dirt clods and broken rock. Under him he could feel the war mount find its footing, grab the earth with fore hooves, and then stretch out. Eating that ground up like they had wings.</p> <p>That ultimate thrill of break neck speed, thundering hearts and sweat.</p> <p>The Barbaroi screaming the entire way down and half way out into the plain before it finally took a breath and yelled at the top of its non-existent lungs STOP!!!!</p> <p>Brim of wide travelers hat was pushed slightly down from the roaring of winds. The black cape unfurled and floating out like the wings of a giant owl. He couldn't stop, nor could the horse. It simply felt right to just r-u-n. Run until their hearts burst within them, and who gave a f*ck afterward?</p> <p>"God %#!!! IT! I DO! That's who!" The Barbaroi was pissed now. After so many days of being quiet in stunned silence. "So help me D if you don't pull this thing over!!!"</p> <p>Of course he didn't. He was running like the Devil himself was hot on his ass. Right still held the reigns, and left resting to the neck. The Barbaroi had never, no not even once, ever presumed to stop the Hunter,...but this time. He would. Because not 1000 ft in front of them was a ravine coming up and God only knew how deep or far apart it was going to be, and D was taking all three straight to it. The soft calling of power had the black eyes moving from ahead down to his left hand, but it was too late. The front of the horse toppled over, and the entire world spun out from under him. Grass, hard earth, the occasional rock that went zooming past under his back felt more like being drug across hot coals. Breaking the vision into millions of stars. And just beyond the the sound of the crashing, tumbling body was the Barbaroi screaming again "D, The ledge! Grab on to something ANYTHING!!!!"</p> <p>Then all at once his legs felt air, and gravity. The right corner of cape grabbed and found purchase on the ledge but it gave way. Right hand reached, found the root of an old dead tree. It snapped,...and down another several feet. This time the Barbaroi grabbed, the hand slapping to another root. And for once nothing gave way. They were left there dangling. The Barbaroi so damned scared his teeth had embedded into the wood, and his fingers a death grip. Muffled voice came a few minutes later "Ya knaw, I 'eally hate ewe Sffumtimez"</p> <p>D was looking down. That ravine was a damn canyon. He tilted the hat up and could see the ledge above them. And no way to get there. He looked down again, and could see, he hoped he could anyway what looked like some sort of out cropping of rock. "Let go" Came the monotone, deep voice. "WA! Ewe OUT Ewe MINNNE??!" SO they just hung there while the D waited for the Barbaroi to grow some balls and let them drop. When he did, the scream was hoarse, and cracked. And stopped abruptly when D's legs gave out and found himself on his back looking up. The Barbaroi's hand fell to the earth also looking up, wood splinters still in it's little mouth. And the Root they had been holding on to right beside it. Apparently he didn't let go, the root snapped,...again.</p> <p>D rolled his eyes and looked again to the night sky. And then,...one very pissed off little man's face in his nose to nose. "You could have killed us."</p> <p>"We're still here aren't we?"</p> <p>Yeah, but no thanks to you Mr suicide mission, what the hell were you thinking? Oh don't answer that I already know. You with the legs thinking the best thing you can do is run."</p> <p>D just stared back cross eyed "Are you finished yet?"</p> <p>"No"</p> <p>"*sighs* Then get it over with. We have either a long climb up, or a long climb down" The Hunter tried to roll to his side, and discovered then...he couldn't feel his legs. He closed his eyes and tried it again. Still,..nothing. But no pain either. "Can you sit up at least? Let me get a look down there?" The Left hand was turning back and forth, from looking at D to down at his legs. "Their in a funny position. Maybe you shouldn't try to move"</p> <p>The next several hours were spent with the Barbaroi literally looking within his host. The hand laying over the heart "Several broke vertebrae and a broke thigh. Your not going anywhere for a while asshole. Say, do you think that horse survived?"</p> <p>Lefty was talking nonsense, he knew that in its own way it soothed D. He was used to it, and he wasn't alone. That same spell was cast, and D would would slip into sleep. The Left hand hoovering for a moment, then set to gathering the earth in his palm. Every time she stopped and it was quite her mind would drift. The smell of his leather, the feel of his hair between her fingers, the scent of rain and earth.</p> <p>She thought of the time they shared together in the spring where she used the crystalline soil to scrub his body and hair. How energetic and refreshed he was. She then laughed to herself as well when he went running out of the water and rolled in the grass. Then the request to have it again soon. That hit her hard and she dropped to her knees. There would not be another....for he was not here to give it to him.</p> <p>The pain and the hunger hit her again her jaw ached from it. The tip of her tongue tasting the air searching for him but there was no answer for again he was not there.</p> <p>She went back to the cafe finding little amusement here and there but always distracted. The picture above the mantel stared down at her. She would go to the second floor and see the picture where he saw her. </p> <p>Growling and turning no matter where she went he was there all about her. Yet when she looked within...all she got was cold and silent.</p> <p>Here she had found the one that truly completed her the one that she felt she had dreamed and walked more than one life time for...just...gone.</p> <p>When she met with Rune they talked of the cities needs for more Magistrates, the need to chose is Vice-Mayor. The changes that would come to be. She was satisfied the city did indeed choose wisely. The tea offered only half drunk for it did not satisfy that thirst. She knew what she hungered and thirsted after but not possible for...he was gone. Rune's words now moved through her head. “when a man hurts the one he loves it takes a part of him away...” Ok, fine, she could deal with that but did that mean it had to be ALL of HIM?!?!?!</p> <p>When she returned home all she could do was look about Diablo pushing her shoulder for a treat. She laughed a little and held the sugar cubes out for him and then for Precious. But she sensed the same in them. They missed him.</p> <p>She strolled over to the the rose trellis and pulled a few of the black roses that were in full bloom and laid them out to dry. “A message?” she thought to herself and then added “how?” This would take time for she knew he would not answer through their bond that was closed off from her. The cold and silence hitting her harder each time she looked.</p> <p>When she opened her eyes that blue flame was gone only black limitless orbs remained. “I love him and I need him. Forming dew in diamonds that dripped now and then upon the leather armor of his chest.</p> <p>The Barbaroi, D's only true constant companion had not said a word since leaving Legacies, nor had the Hunter. The out crop of rock crumbled at its edges, the weight of steed now gingerly placing hoof. His black as night mane drifting, sometimes whipping in the gust of winds that came and sang her name. Wide brim of travelers hat tipped low, concealing that he even had a face, or beauty that was not of this world....any world that could be his.</p> <p>He closed his eyes, even as the war mount lowered its neck to sleep. Maybe dream of green pastures it had left.</p> <p>Down below was the great frontier. Spread out before them were grassy plains, and several towns spread out for hundreds of miles. Twinkling lights seen in the dark. Mixing with the horizon of night sky. But this place, where he stood now was barren rock. Void of life...</p> <p>Back hoof bent swaying the Hunter again in his saddle while the beast under him settled in for the night. Everything went still, as if even the air itself knew he was numb.</p> <p>Dreams came and went. Angels sang, and demons taunted. One was the light, the other dark and he,..was the twilight. One accused, and spoke that it was already in his heart to take innocent life. He was in love with that final beating of heart. That pure selfish need to stand in peace because he had fulfilled that which was in his nature to do.</p> <p>The other only laughed, and asked why the guilt? If this is what you were created to be, how does this make it wrong? Look at the world around you. They all do it, they all succumb to what their natures are. And do not believe for even a moment that the wrong they to do another is sin. After all, if it feels good, do it right? Or if it keeps trouble from your own door, and makes your own life easier,..let it be. Are you so sure? your own selfishness is not the right way to go?</p> <p>And there was himself, standing between them. The beautiful and terrible reality of twilight. Happiness, this is my base desire, this is what I seek and long for. Is sacrifice what will give to me peace? Walking away from her, walking away from the darkness within me too? For she stirs it, makes it lust in ways I did not know were possible. Her compassion, her very real love of others. So much so that she would sacrifice for them. And they sh*t all over her. Use her as a door mat. But it is that love that causes me to love her in return. Always humble, never asking of me, believing in the best of me.</p> <p>Gloved hands reached up, their fingers knocking off the hat, grabbing at the hair at the top of his skull. He'd wake suddenly from his own scream of madness. The war mount started, stepping back from the ledge and rearing. Sparks flying from razor like hoofs and their bashing against rock.</p> <p>He pulled those reigns tight, forcing the chin down to massive chest. forcing beast back down to earth and spurring it hard in the flanks.
